The ask: Redesign a news website with over 40,000 articles in 9 languages. The main languages being Farsi, Arabic and English.
The solution: extensive research. I looked into Iranian design best practises, building websites in a right to left language, and hours looking at other news sources. From there, I worked with our development team to figure out the best way to build a site that can be easily swapped between English and Farsi — as the design itself would need to entirely flip. This involved an extensive design system so I could easily scale my designs, as I not only needed to design every page in multiple sizes, but multiple languages too. Working with the client, we developed a robust navigation system so all articles could be added and tagged efficiently, allowing them to product content more efficiently.
